TechWORKS - Construction

Steps to complete Tech WORKS in Construction:

At least seven total classes in Career Technology Education Department with a C or above

Required introductory courses:

  • Engineering Drafting & Design I
    (Previously Computer Aided Drafting & Design)
  • Woodworking
  • Small Engines
  • Metals
  • Customer Service Strategies**

Area of emphasis classes in the Construction Pathway
(select at least three):

  • Advanced Woodworking
  • Construction I
  • Construction II* (must take Construction I & II to get credit)
  • Architectural CAD*
  • Engineering Drafting & Design II
    (Previously Computer Technical Drafting)
  • Construction Lab II: INT 395 & 396**
  • AC Electricity
Attend three career fairs
Attend two company or job site tours
Go on at least one community college/college/university/apprenticeship program tour
Students must have a good attendance record, be in class on time and demonstrate cell phone etiquette during classes
All students will successfully fulfill all DCSD requirements for graduation
* Articulated classes - Allows high school students to earn college credit through agreements between their high schools and Northeast Iowa Community College. Area school districts and NICC agree on core competencies and performance levels to ensure credits are transferable to the College.
** Concurrent classes - These classes enable high school students who have met the eligibility requirements of the College and high school to take college coursework.
